(Written by Huimin Li) On March 28, 2023, Elsevier released 2022 “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” list. The list covers 84 disciplines. 94 scholars from Wuhan University are named on the list. After Professor Paul Patton from Wuhan University was named in 2021 list, he is named again for 2022 list and continued to be the only candidate from the humanities of Wuhan University.

This list uses Scopus, a globally authoritative citation and index database, as the statistical source to analyze the performance of scientific research achievements of Chinese scholars. Since its first release in 2015, it is the ninth release in 2023, and has received great attention from media and scholars.

The inclusion of these scholars on the list represents the total number of citations published by these scholars is at the top level among all scholars in mainland China in this discipline, and also proves that their scientific research achievements have made outstanding contributions and have important influence in this discipline. The number of highly cited papers and scholars is also the most important indicator of international discipline rankings.
