Wuhan University is proud to announce the sixth annual offering of the Wuhan University International Research Fellowship in philosophy.
The Philosophy Department has funding for 2-3 positions to start September 1, 2021. Applications are welcome from all areas in philosophy but see the comments below about the Department and criteria for appointment.
ABOUT US
Located in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, Wuhan University is a leading research university. The University is ranked 5th in mainland China and the Philosophy Departments is ranked 4th. The Department currently has more than 80 full time faculty, including 6 international appointments. Its members are engaged in all areas of philosophical research, with scholars dedicated to traditional Chinese philosophy, contemporary Western philosophy in both analytic and continental traditions, ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, social and political philosophy and Marxist philosophy. Faculty members and other information may be found on the website at www.whu.edu.cn/phi/
ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP
This is a two-year post-doctoral fellowship, with the possibility of extension. It is intended to provide a home for outstanding recent PhDs to develop their research and to publish in top ranked international journals. No teaching is required, although there are opportunities to take on teaching responsibilities for those interested in developing their teaching portfolio. The starting date for the current round of fellowships is September 1, 2021. Salary is 120,000-180,000 RMB annually (well above the median income in the city). Health insurance is included. Please note that successful applicants will be expected to relocate to Wuhan.
COVID-RELATED INFORMATION
Although Wuhan became internationally known as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the virus has been largely suppressed in Wuhan and elsewhere in China through a combination of strict lockdowns last spring, continuing strict travel restrictions, testing, temperature checks and mask wearing. Life is back to normal in Wuhan and the campus is open. However, travel restrictions currently imposed by the Chinese government make it difficult for foreigners to travel to China. With vaccines expected in 2021, we anticipate that travel to Wuhan will be possible by the projected start date of September 1, 2021. If travel is not possible to Wuhan by then, the start date of the fellowship may need to be postponed.
